HENRY HAROLD ABBOTT - Redmond - Henry H Abbott, 79, a resident of Central Oregon for 60 years, died Saturday in Redmond.
A service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at Redmond Memorial Chapel with Rev Frank Palmer officiating. Burial will be at Redmond Memorial Cemetery.
Mr Abbott was born Feb. 7, 1911, at Hood River to Joel C. and Mary (Delore) Abbott. He married Verda Bay on Aug. 16, 1927, in Vancouver, Wash. He worked for many years for Babler Brothers Road Construction of Redmond before retiring. He also worked as a carpenter.
He was a member of the Chinook tribe. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and music, once playing for a dance band in Redmond.
He was proceded in death by his wife, Verda; a son, Robert Abbott; two brothers, Rufus Augustus Abbott and Joel Curtis Abbott; and two sisters, Minnie and Frances.
He is survived by three daughters, Gladyce Damewood of Christmas Valley, Dona Lee Hammack of Prineville and Marsha Bastain of Long Creek; a son Harold Joe Abbott of Port Angeles, Wash.; 19 grandchildren; and 35 great-grandchildren. REDMOND SPOKESMAN 9/25/1990

I can remember wonderful times up at Grandma and Grandpa's spending a week during the summer with them. Grandpa taught us how to go out with flashlights and catch worms to go fishing. Grandma's co-workers found a baby robin on the way to work and sent it home with Grandma – sissy and I fed it Oregon Grapes and it pooped purple on their Light Blue rug. Isn't it funny the things that stick in your mind? Grandma must have been the stability in Grandpa's life because after Grandma passed away he had his own drum that he kept beating.
