Leone May Abbott was born right in the middle of the depression on July 1, 1933, Pierre, Hughes county, South Dakota, the oldest child born to Floyd and Myrl (Bonson) Emerson. She was about three years old when the family packed up and left South Dakota coming west and Leone started first grade in Benton County, Washington. The family moved to Redmond where Leone spent the rest of her life. She met James Abbott and they were married on June 25, 1950. To this union four children were born. Leone went to work at the Redmond School District as Manager/Cook and worked there the last 17 years of her life. Leone and Jim both enjoyed the local Veterans of Foreign Wars Post and were active members. She was the treasurer for the local Ladies Auxiliary for the VFW and Vice president of the State Ladies Auxiliary. She also belonged to the American Veterans and Cooties auxiliary. They also enjoyed fishing, bowling, golf, and she enjoyed cooking. Leone was diagnosed with cancer and played a hard fight with that. She passed away on June 13, 1993 at the age of 59; they had been married 43 years. Jim lived on another 9 years and is laid to rest next to Leone in the Redmond Memorial Cemetery. She would leave behind her Loving husband, three daughters; Cheryl Clark, Karen Yelle of Hillsboro County, Kathi Kanahele of Bend, son Joel of Pendleton; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three brothers, Floyd of California, Norman of The Dalles, and Merl of Terrebonne; and two sisters, Bernadine Pedrero of California, and Ardella Bower of Warrenton.
