LAST RESPECTS PAID TO PIONEER RESIDENT
ATLIN, B.C. April 2nd __
Protestant and Roman Catholic, Indian and White paid last respects to Fred W. Ackles at St. Martin's church this afternoon. The church was filled to capacity and a number stood outside during the funeral services, conducted by Rector Stanley B. Hills. Mrs. F. J. Henning was organist. Hymns sung were "Lead Kindly Light" and "Abide With Me". There was a profusion of floral tributes. Interment was in Atlin Cemetery. Pall bearers were F. J. Henning, R. A. Roxborough, Pete Matson, Kirst T. Johnson, Neil Forbes and Charles Oberlander.
Mr. Ackles died suddenly while en route to visit in Atlin on March 28 and was found with Mrs. Ackles in their car about 12 miles along the Atlin Highway from the turnoff at Jakes' corner. They had resided in Atlin and district for 22 years and left in 1950 to operate The Pines Lodge on the Alaska Highway. Only recently they sold the business to Roman Chaykowski and went to Carcross to spend the winter. In February they celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary.
Mr. Ackles was born June 14, 1894 at Spearfish, South Dakota. Besides his widow he is survived by his mother, Mrs. J. B. Mitchell at San Fernando, Calif.
