She was born to Hans and Hilda (Hanson) Odegard on April 11, 1943 at Milnor, ND, where she grew up and attended school. On April 8, 1962, she married Elmer Aabrekke. In 1977, Mardell went to work for the Milnor Public School where she was a teacher's aide and also playground supervisor until retiring in 2017. She enjoyed spending time with family & friends and playing cards. Mardell was a great cook and loved making the boys "fried chicken" which was one of their favorites. Christmas was Mardell's favorite holiday and she loved decorating for it. She also enjoyed traveling and working in her flower beds.
She is survived by her husband Elmer; two sons, Mark (Genene) Aabrekke and Chad Aabrekke; daughter Melissa "Missy" (Blake) Finger; four grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings, Elwood (Diane) Odegard, Curt Odegard, Dale (Carol) Odegard, Dennis (Barb) Odegard, Kevin (Danene) Odegard and Lynn (Michelle) Odegard, and brother-in-law James Kath.
Mardell was preceded in death by her parents, son Brian, two brothers, Vern & ElRoy, one sister, Sharon, four sisters-in-law, Louise, Beth, LaVelle & Lois, and four brothers-in-law, Tom, Darrell, Lyder & Roger.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, January 10, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Milnor Lutheran Church, Milnor, ND. Masks are mandatory. Burial will be at Lakeside Cemetery in the spring.
