Though not a native Texan, he continuously told people "I wasn't born in Texas, but I moved here as fast as I could!" Johnny's family moved to Beaumont, TX in 1969 and while attending church, he met the love of his life, Karen Foerster. Johnny and Karen married on January 6, 1972 at Redeemer Lutheran Church. Soon after, they started their family and had three children, Kyle, Patrick, and Dawn. Johnny graduated from the Houston Police Academy on June 1, 1971, and he faithfully served Houston residents for 34 years, retiring on January 15, 2005.

After retiring from the police department, Johnny quickly became a pro-life advocate, working with Lutherans for Life Texas and local Right to Life organizations. As a devout Christian and with a heart full of love for Jesus Christ, Johnny was always involved in numerous Bible studies and small groups within the churches he attended. He also enjoyed quality time with his family, going on adventures and trips with his wife and children, whom he loved and cherished immensely. He enjoyed hobbies such as teaching and playing the Texas dominoes game 42, going fishing when he had the opportunity, or just relaxing at home with his wife, dog, and iPad.

Johnny Blake was preceded in death by his parents, Roy B. Blake and Jean Coffer Blake; his sister, Marsha Hutson; and his brother-in-law, Maher Ojjeh.
