REVEREND AUGUST (AUGIE) E. AAMODT, 72, of Friendswood, Texas passed away May 24, 2002. He was born in Crookston, Minnesota on February 12, 1930, the son of Arne and Carrie Brown Aamodt. Reverend Aamodt received his Master of Divinity degree from Vanderbilt University in 1959. Throughout his career, he served on numerous Boards, advisory committees and national committees. He served for 8 years as Director of Development at Louisiana Methodist Children's Home. Reverend Aamodt was a member of the National United Methodist Association of Health and Welfare Ministries when he received the Outstanding National Director of Development Award, and in 1992, the Public Relations & Marketing of the Year Award and the Award for Outstanding Contribution to the field of Fund Development for Child Care. Reverend Aamodt retired after 40 years as a Methodist Minister where he served in a variety of positions related to the United Methodist Church in North Dakota, Illinois, Ohio, Louisiana, Texas and Alaska. One of his proudest accomplishments were the Mission Work Camps. He had been a worker, host or leader of 60 work camps. Most of them were in the wilderness jungle areas of Central America and remote locations in Alaska. He wrote a weekly newspaper column for 13 years in the Ruston Daily Leader, the Minden Journal and the Bossier Press Herald. As a retired minister, Reverend Aamodt continued to volunteer in various capacities in his local church, Friendswood United Methodist Church until his death. He was a member of the Houston and Galveston Orchid Societies and the Friendswood Rotary Club. He is survived by his wife, Marie Aamodt of Friendswood, Texas; his daughter, Kari and her husband, Mark of Arcadia, Louisiana; his sons, Peter and his wife Jodi of New Orleans, Louisiana and Arne and his wife, Kimberly of Friendswood, Texas and 5 grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to The Methodist Children's Home, 901 South Vienna Street, Ruston, Louisiana 71270 (318) 255-5020 in memory of Reverend August Aamodt. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, May 28, 2002 at Friendswood United Methodist Church, 204 West Edgewood, Friendswood, Texas with Reverend Charles Anderson officiating, assisted by Terrill DeVille and Louis Hejtmanek. Arrangements were under the direction of Jeter Memorial Funeral Home in Friendswood, Texas.
