Creede Candle, June 22, 1912: Before a coroner's jury . . . Deputy Roy I Fisher . . . held an inquiry into the cause of Death of J. L. Anderson and Abraham Alldred, Tuesday afternoon. Mine Foreman, Horace Wheeler, . . .told of seeing the men alive shortly after 9 a.m., Monday, on the sixth level of the Chance Mine.
After some deliberations, the (Coroner's) Jury returned the following verdict: "That both men came to their death . . . through the parting of the cable used in hoisting and lowering of the skip used for ore and waste."
Note: A later newspaper article stated that Mr. Anderson's body was removed to Louisville for burial. It did not state which cemetery, so I placed his memorial page in the Louisville Cemetery, then at the request of a descendant, I moved his page back to Creede since that is where the family believes he is buried.
Further investigation with Betsey Rogers, who has much information on Creede burials did not turn up any information at all on John Anderson. I have left his page here for the time being If a gravesite is found elsewhere, I will move the page then. pwc
