She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Emery W. Braa; daughters, Pam (Eddie) Kirby, Gwen (Ernie) Scherman, Cindy (Brian) Wall; son, Dan (Christine) Braa; her nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren with one great-grandson-to-be due in April. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
Viewing will be Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Indian River Chapel, Virginia Beach, VA. Funeral service will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, 521 Providence Rd., Chesapeake, VA. Marlys Aaker was born Aug. 18, 1933, to Lewis and Clara Aaker in Dell Rapids, S.D.
On June 22, 1952, she married Emery Braa.
She was active in the Grace Lutheran Church and led the Grace Lutheran Threaders, knitting and crocheting sweaters for children, prayer shawls, caps for the Seaman's House and sewing cool ties for the military and walker and wheelchair bags.
Marlys is survived by her husband, Emery Braa, Virginia Beach; three daughters, Pam (Eddie) Kirby, Lewisburg, W.Va., Gwen (Ernie) Scherman, Virginia Beach, Cindy (Brian) Wall, Virginia Beach; a son, Dan (Christine) Braa, Winston Salem, N.C.; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Mavis (Norris) Larson, Jasper; and many other relatives and friends.
