Frank M. Gorden, a well known resident of Marcy township, died at the Eleanor Moore hospital in this city Wednesday evening, Jan. 6th, after a short illness with pneumonia. He was brought to the hospital a few days before his death, but the disease had progressed too far to be checked. The funeral services were held Friday from the Quincy church in Marcy township, conducted by the pastor of the church and attended by a large number of sorrowing relatives and friends. Burial in the cemetery at that place. Deceased was born in Mahaska county, Iowa, Feb 22, 1847 and was in his 62nd year at the time of his death. In 1871 he was married to Miss Editha A. Bennett. To them were born six daughters, four of whom survive, also one stepson and a number of grandchildren. He was a pioneer settler of Boone county and a highly esteemed resident of Coal Valley, and his death is mourned by a wide circle of friends.
