LITTLE FALLS -- Ronald "Ron" Aalgaard, 72, Little Falls, died Sunday, Sept. 1, 2002, at his home in Little Falls.

He was born Feb. 4, 1930, in Valley City, N.D., to Peder and Anna (Larson) Aalgaard. He grew up on the family farm in Sanborn, N.D. He attended elementary school and graduated from Sanborn High School with the class of 1947. He attended college in Jamestown, N.D., the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks and graduated from Valley City State University with a teaching degree. He joined the Navy on Nov. 3, 1950 and was discharged on Aug. 20, 1954. He married Evelyn Kanwischer on Aug. 14, 1955, in Valley City, N.D. They lived in North Dakota and Minnesota. He worked as a teacher. In 1969, they moved to Little Falls. His wife died June 29, 1988. He taught math at Little Falls High School, retiring in 1992. He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Little Falls, Little Falls American Legion Post 46, where he served as past commander, Little Falls VFW Post 1112, National Education Association and the Minnesota Education Association.

Survivors include a son, Raan Aalgaard, Eielson Air Force Base, Alaska; a daughter, Maarja Wisroth, Carbondale, Colo.; a brother, Gene Aalgaard, Oregon; a sister, Phyllis Sforza, Hartford, Conn.; and five grandchildren.

A brother, Turman Aalgaard, died earlier.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at First Lutheran Church in Little Falls with the Rev. David Steffenson officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Little Falls.

Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. today at the Shelley Funeral Chapel in Little Falls and from 1-2 p.m. Friday at the church in Little Falls. A prayer service will be at 6 p.m. today at the funeral chapel hosted by Little Falls American Legion Post 46. A prayer service will follow at 6:30 p.m. Military rites will be conducted by Little Falls American Legion Post 46 and Little Falls VFW Post 1112.
