Bessie O Ackerman died Friday, July 2, 2021, at her home in Charleston, South Carolina, surrounded by family and friends. Bess was born February 23, 1942, in Cottageville, SC, a graduate of Cottageville High School and Palmer Business College, a faithful employee of the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control for 35 years and a member of Rehoboth Methodist Church of Cottageville. Bess was a kind, gentle, humble individual who loved the Lord. Bess loved spending time with family and friends, traveling, golfing, and nature walking.

Bess was preceded in death by her parents, Alvah Justin and Lisher Jaques Ackerman, her sisters, Mary Elizabeth Ackerman and Jean Ackerman Reeves, and her brothers, Alvah Francis Ackerman and Lawrence Myrtlin Ackerman. Bess is survived by her sister, Thelma Ackerman Snelgrove, and her brothers, James Allen Ackerman and Leonard Sherrill Ackerman (Monta), her nieces, Teri Elizabeth Snelgrove and Allison Reeves Parks (Brian), and her nephews, Patrick Mellichamp Reeves (Yolanda) and Alvah Justin Ackerman II (Marie).

Bess will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her, especially her grandniece Sasha and her grandnephew Sean. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Susan Murphy and Linda Jacobs for their friendship, love, compassion, and care throughout her life and on her journey home.

Graveside funeral services will be held at the Jaques Cemetery, Highway 61, near Cottageville on Monday, July 5 at 11am. Arrangements are being handled by J. Henry Stuhr Funeral Home West Ashley, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway, Charleston, South Carolina.
