Jacquelyn Cox Abernathy, 85, passed away on January 12, 2018. She was born Jacquelyn Lee Cox on June 24, 1932 in Boaz Alabama. She was the last of seven children.

In 1950 after graduating from Bass High School in Atlanta, Ga, she married Calvin Donald Abernathy, and they had four children. She was a homemaker for her entire career. Jackie is survived by her brother Ralph Cox of Atlanta, Ga, and by her children Don Abernathy (Debbie) of Charlotte NC, David Abernathy (Estelle) of Waxhaw, NC, Lee Ann Kaplan (Hardy) of Marietta, Ga, and Tim Abernathy (Joanne) of Marietta, Ga, plus all of their seventeen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

After her husband Calvin took an early retirement they built their dream house in 1981 on a beautiful lot at the top of Aho Mountain, near Boone, NC, where they spent the happiest nine years of their life together. After forty years of marriage, Calvin passed away in July of 1990, and Jackie continued on in Boone for another eighteen years. She then moved to Hickory, NC, in June 2008, and in August of 2015 she moved to Pineville, NC, to be near her sons Don and David.

Jackie was a faithful church member in various Southern Baptist churches throughout her life.

Services for Mrs. Abernathy will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at McEwen Funeral Home - Pineville Chapel, 10500 Park Rd., Charlotte, NC 28210, with a visitation at 1 pm and a funeral at 2pm.

A graveside service will be on Sunday, January 21, 2018 at 12 noon at Mount Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Boone, NC 28607.
