Marian grew up in Topeka, KS. She attended Boswell Jr. High and graduated from Topeka High School. Marian played sports in school and was a cheerleader for the Topeka High School Black Basketball team. She remained active in the sport of bowling where she bowled many perfect games of 300, receiving many trophies. She bowled on the women's team and the mixed team of men and women. Marian also liked to play cards with her friends and was an avid bingo player.
Marian worked for the Kansas Neurological Institute for ten years and for the 501 school district for 37 years before retiring. Marian and Charles traveled to many places such as Africa, Germany, Poland, Spain, Portugal, Austria and many states within the United States. Marian and Charles were members of the former Black Democratic Caucus of Kansas.
Marian loved to interact with the students at Topeka High School. She had a very special bond with those she became close to.
Mrs. Douglas leaves to mourn her absence her two daughters, Cynthia Douglas and DeAnna Douglass-Chappell (Nathan); three sons, Charles Douglas Jr. (Kim) of San Antonio, TX, Robert Douglas and Frederick Douglas (Wakeena), both of Topeka, KS; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of friends along with two special ladies, Lenora Douglas and Lois Douglas.
