He began his career working as a civil engineer for the Illinois Department of Transportation and then went on to work for the Southern Illinois Electric Cooperative, where he worked as outside operations manager for 25 years. He was a partner in Double C Farms, and in his earlier days, he raised and rode horses. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Dongola, an avid golfer, and loved all things related to his grandchildren. He and Patty enjoyed spending their winters in Florida.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Patty; a daughter, Vicki (Tom) Mead; a son, Mark Corzine; four grandchildren, Hannah (Mike) Youngman, Kade (Kalli) Corzine, Matthew (Amanda) Mead, and Tonya (Ben) Hurst; seven great-grandchildren, Kennett Youngman, Hazel Youngman, Koy Corzine, Kaci Corzine, Everett Mead, Journee Rushing, and Theodore Hurst; three nephews, Mike, Jeff, and Dean Sykes; a brother in law, Larry Sykes; and several other cousins, relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Floella Sykes.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 5, 2021 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday, Nov. 6 from 12-2 at the First Baptist Church in Dongola. Funeral service will take place on Saturday, November 6, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at the church with Rev. Paul Sadler officiating. Interment will follow at the Friendship Church Cemetery.
