SPEARVILLE – Larry B. Ackerman, 67, passed away Thursday, November 4, 2021 at Western Plains Medical Complex in Dodge City, Kansas.

He was born on July 9, 1954 at Dodge City, Kansas the son of Raymond "Ray" William and Mary Eleanor (Ring) Ackerman. Larry was a lifetime area resident attending Windthorst Schools through his sophomore year and graduated from Spearville High School. After high school he went on to Fort Hays State University to obtain his Bachelor's degree. For 25 years he worked as the office manager for Farmland Industries Nitrogen Plant until July 2003 at which time he began farming and running cattle on the family farm full time. Spring calving season and harvest time were the highlights of his year, as well as occasionally "escaping the house" to impart his wisdom on the ladies at First National Bank in Spearville.

He was a member of St. John the Baptist Church and Knights of Columbus Council 1539 both in Spearville. He was also a longtime member of the Windthorst Grave Diggers.

On March 15, 1980 he married Kenna S. Ewy at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Windthorst.

Survivors include: his wife of 41 years, Kenna; their 3 sons, TJ Ackerman and wife Katie, Spearville, Bryce Ackerman, Ulysses, Kansas, and Mitchell Ackerman and wife Gentry, Hays, Kansas; 3 sisters, Marcia Farid, Wichita, Vicki Evinger and husband Jerome, Dodge City and Lynnette Hessman, Spearville; 3 brothers, Ed Ackerman and wife Toni, Brewster, Kansas, Rod Ackerman and wife Kerry, Brewster and Jeff Ackerman and wife Kelly, Hays; 4 brothers-in-law, Earl Cain, Clearwater, Kansas, John Ewy and wife Marsha, Jetmore, Pete Ewy and wife Patsy, Kinsley and Stan Ewy and wife Shelly, Albert, Kansas; 3 grandsons, Jaxon, Hudson and Lawson Ackerman whom he loved with all his heart and did everything he could to teach his ornery tendencies to; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Diane Cain.

Vigil service will be at 7:00 pm Tuesday, November 9, 2021 at St. John the Baptist Church in Spearville. Funeral Mass will be Wednesday at 10:00 am at the church with Fr. John Forkuoh presiding. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery, Spearville. Visitation will be Tuesday from noon to 4:00 pm at Ziegler Funeral Chapel, Dodge City.
