GENE'S OBITUARY
LANCASTER, SC ~ Mr. Carl Eugene "Gene" Marshall, age 86, passed away Sunday, November 7, 2021, at MUSC. He was born August 6, 1935, in Lancaster, SC, a son of the late Thomas Reese Marshall and Florence Julia Marshall and was the husband of Susan Caskey Marshall. Mr. Marshall retired from Springs Industries. He was very easy going, enjoyed spending time outdoors, talking with others, and tinkering. Mr. Marshall loved to fix things. Give him anything broken, and he could fix it. He was an exceptional machinist, almost a perfectionist. Mr. Marshall was a member of the Golden Agers, Friends In Christ Sunday School Class, and Volunteered at the Elgin Fire Department BBQ's. He was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church.
Mr. Marshall is survived by his wife of 62 years, Susan Caskey Marshall; a son, Kevin Marshall (Jennifer) of Charlotte; two daughters, Terry Marshall Povey (Paul) of Blythewood, and Kelly Marshall Fuller (Ashley) of Georgetown, SC; five grandchildren, Robert Marshall Povey (Jane), Sarah Irene Povey (Fiancé Scott Frazier), Christopher Lee Marshall (Kelly), Captain Jennifer Suzanne Melfi (Captain Marc Melfi) and Amiee Caroline Burch; a great granddaughter, Logan Kennedy Marshall; a sister, Lavonia Ackerman of Lancaster; and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Marshall was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Cecil, Shelly, Lewis, and JB; and three sisters, Sara Hunter, Margaret Huckabee, and Martha Barrineau.
The Celebration of Life Service for Mr. Marshall will be 3:00 pm Thursday, November 11, 2021, at St. Luke United Methodist Church officiated by Rev. Perry Evatt and Rev. Bill McCowan.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 3:00 pm, one hour prior to the service, in the Welcome Center at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Luke United Methodist Church, 128 Providence Road, Lancaster, SC 29720.
