Edna Dean Abernathy Nelms, 89, widow of Clarence Nelms, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2021, at her home. She and Clarence would have celebrated their 74th wedding anniversary on Christmas Eve.

Mrs. Nelms was born Feb. 15, 1932, in Harrell, Ark., to Boyd Martin and Bessie Abernathy. She worked two years at Comet Rice Mill and retired from Producer's Rice Mill after 24 years working in packing and quality control. She enjoyed sewing, needlework and cooking but her favorite thing to do was fish for crappie. She enjoyed spending time with all her family. She was a charter member of Park Avenue Missionary Baptist Church.

Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Ronnie Dean Nelms; brothers, Robert Abernathy and Bill Abernathy; sisters, Martha Sue Burgess; and a cousin who was very dear to her, J.C. James.

Survivors are son, Gary Edward Nelms (Diania) of Stuttgart; daughters, Sharon Booth and Wanda Hooker of Stuttgart; brothers, Larry Abernathy of Dover, Tenn., and Jack Abernathy (Beverly) of Bauxite, Ark.; sisters, Evelyn Wright of Little Rock, Doris Bonds (Travis) of Morrilton and Nina McDermott (Floyd) of Grand Lake, Ark.; grandchildren, Shelly Strain (Blake), Jennifer Reaves (Johnathan), Brad Booth, Alisha Robertson (Heath), Rhonda Errabelli (Adithya); Christopher Hooker and Jared Hooker; great-grandchildren, Hannah Booth, Haley Strain, Emily Reaves and Nellina Errabelli; and great-great-grandchildren, Aubrielle Booth and Elijah Booth.
