OBITUARY

Yvonne "Vonnie" Irene Noah, 86, passed away Tuesday, January 25, 2022, at Bishop Drumm Care Center in Johnston. Services will be held at 1 pm Sunday, January 30, at Iles Westover Chapel in Des Moines. Cremation will follow services and a private inurnment will be held at Iowa Veterans Cemetery at a later date.

Vonnie was born June 9, 1935, in Bode, IA, to Lawrence and Edna (Keck) Abens. She attended Humboldt High School. Soon after she graduated, she would say she was blessed to have married Gerald "Buck" Noah on August 23, 1953 and moved to Des Moines, where they were lifelong partners for sixty-five and a half years.

She was a lunch lady for Hoover High School for 25 years and loved every minute of it. She was even able to serve lunch to three of her four grandchildren while they attended Hoover.

Vonnie had many hobbies and interests. She was an avid domino player; her family would say she was the best domino player around! If she wasn't playing dominos, she was playing cards. Vonnie could never say no to a game of Euchre. When she wasn't playing games, she was watching her favorite sports teams. You would most definitely see her supporting black and gold for the Iowa Hawkeyes or blue and red for the Cubs! She also loved to cheer on her grandson's college team the Kohawks.

Vonnie had a great sense of humor, a passion for liturgical music and a fondness for casinos. Her favorite casino was the one that was the closest. She emphasized the importance of Christmas and snow with the sign she had hanging in her home which read, "Pray for Snow." Vonnie adored her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved them wholeheartedly and is greatly missed by them.

Vonnie will be remembered by this quote from her favorite movie, The Wizard of Oz, "The heart is not judged by how much you love but how much you are loved by others."

Vonnie is survived by her daughter, Kim Martin of Johnston, IA; son, Scott Noah of West Des Moines, IA; four grandchildren, Bryan (Angie) Martin of Cedar Rapids, IA, Amy Lustig of Iowa City, IA, Grant (Jenny) Noah of Woodward, IA, and Gail (Alex) Marske of West Des Moines, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Buck, son, Mitchell, and her siblings, Kenneth Abens, Howard Abens, and Marilee Collins.

The family will receive friends from 6 - 9pm Saturday, January 29, at Iles Westover Chapel. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Family of Vonnie Noah. Online condolences will be welcomed at IlesCares.com.
