Dennis was the youngest son of Ruth (Cotterman) Williamson and Owen Hugh Williamson. He had 2 older brothers, Mike and Pat. The family grew up in and he went to school in Lee's Summit, Missouri. He made his home in Lee's Summit with his parents most of his life except for 10 years in Versailles, Missouri and Pleasant Hill the last 2 years of his life.
Dennis may have caused 2 house fires as a child playing with matches. However, both were just accidents though he never lived that down and was gently teased when the subject came up.
Dennis and Diane Flanders met in Lee's Summit High School and became lifelong friends. She married his older brother Mike a few years later so it was an important meeting that day!
Dennis never married however helped his mother care for his father (until his father's death in 2010) for at least 10 years after Owen suffered a couple of strokes and then cared for his mother until her passing in 2015.
A nurse once told family members that Dennis was a better caregiver than most of the trained staff she had seen.
Dennis was of great comfort and an almost daily visitor to his sister-in-law JoDell's father, Neil Jenkins, the last year of his life. Mr. Jenkins required round the clock care at a medical long-term nursing home and could not go home with his wife. Dennis spent a couple hours at the facility, almost daily, for months with Mr. Jenkins until he was moved to hospice. Selfless. Dennis was that kind of a person. He empathized with what others felt and he understood Mr. Jenkins just wanted to go home. My Uncle Dennis gave Mr. Jenkins the most precious gift possible. His friendship. His time. His presence. That was who Dennis was.
Dennis was a truck driver for many years.
Then, he was in a very serious car accident that took several hours by rescuers (fire, police and paramedics) and requiring the 'jaws of life' to remove him from the vehicle. This accident put him in a coma for a bit and had shattered his leg from the hip down to his foot. This required several surgery's while in full body traction and almost a year in the hospital followed by months and months of rehabilitation.
Dennis loved cooking, watching Bob Ross paint, wrestling, was an amazing caretaker for his parents as they aged, and always just a call away to come help any of his family. He also went on frequent road trips with nieces or trips to the Ozarks with nephews.
He had many, many friends and everyone knew him by name at his frequented favorite hang-out spots in town.
He was loved by Michele, Cheryl, Sean, Patricia, Kristy, Jennifer, Patrick and Andrew (nieces and nephews), Mike and Diane (his oldest brother and sister-in-law), Pat and JoDell (the middle brother and his wife) and was a great-uncle to 19 children of the before mentioned nieces and nephews as well as many, many cousins.
Dennis was also a favorite of his Aunt Mary (sister of his father Owen) and Uncle Bud. Aunt Mary liked to spoil him like he was her own child.
Dennis was a dog lover. The last dog family member was Bear and he spoiled that dog rotten.
Dennis will be missed. His passing was unexpected and sudden. He had begun a new career and moved into his own apartment in Pleasant Hill at the time of his passing. One of his clients even named her car Dennis because he had made such a great impression on her with his friendly and genuine personality.
He is buried next to his parents Ruth and Owen Williamson in Floral Hills East Memorial Gardens in Lee's Summit, Missouri.
