Obituary of Jane Abbott Cofer
Birth: November 26, 1943, Kingston, TN
Death: March 26, 2023, Mobile, AL
Jane Abbott Cofer went to her heavenly home on Sunday, March 26, 2023 at the age 79 after an extended illness. Jane was the daughter of Ira Ernest and Betty Jenkins Abbott. Her maternal grandparents were James Madison & Stella Robinson Jenkins. Her paternal grandparents were James Washington and Ida Belle Wise Abbott. Jane was next to the oldest of four sisters.
Jane grew up in Kingston, TN. She graduated from Roane County High School in 1961 with honors and voted Miss Congeniality her Senior year. Her first job was with The Roane County News, in Kingston, TN. In 1962 she married Talmadge E. Cofer of Kingston. They were married at Cedar Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Jimmy Austin officiating. They began their life together in Huntsville, AL, and Jane worked at the Redstone Arsenal. Later they moved to Mobile, AL. In 1970, the couple had their only child, Marc Talmadge Cofer. Jane was a stay-at-home mother until their child attended high school. Then Jane took a job with the Federal Aviation Administration Service (FAA). Being a mother to their son was the joy of Jane's life.
Jane loved her church, Cottage Hill Baptist, Mobile, AL. Jane took great pride in her beautiful home and yard. She often got the Yard of the Month Award from her local Garden Club. Jane loved her Tennessee roots, and although her trips home were not very frequent during her career years and early family life, every visit was joyful and memorable to all who loved her. After she retired, and as her mother became more elderly, Jane visited Kingston more often.
Jane was a beautiful lady and loved by all who knew her. She will be greatly missed, especially by her son, whom she adored, and her two remaining sisters. We know there is rejoicing in Heaven and a wonderful reunion with precious loved ones who have gone before us. Jane loved The Lord.
Jane is preceded in death by her parents, Ira E. and Betty Jenkins Abbott, Husband Talmadge E. Cofer, and Sister Judy Abbott Wright.
Survivors include her Son, Marc T. Cofer of Everett, WA, Sisters Joan Abbott Parish (Eddie) of Kingston, TN and Foniah Kay Abbott of Henderson, NV, her Nephews, Brad and Adam Parish, Michael Pento, Chuck Westmoreland, Alan Westmoreland, and her Niece, Kristina Pento Bontrager..
