Beverly Ann Crotts of High Point passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 11, 2021 at Westchester Harbour, Providence Place.
She was born in Randolph County, January 24, 1941, a daughter of the late Carl R. Crotts and Pauline Sumner Crotts. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her sister-in-law, Elizabeth Ann Crotts of Rockingham, NC.
Beverly, leaves behind her brother, Benson Crotts (Ann) of Rockingham, NC. She is also survived by a niece, Lee-Ann Williams (Chet) and a nephew, Shannon Crotts of Rockingham, NC., great nephews, Jacob (Becky) and Josh Williams (Rhona), a niece Jessica Lubensky (Philip) of Myrtle Beach, SC and their children; Hannah, Caleb, Eli and Cadence. Beverly was also survived by nieces, Amy Brewer, Beth Talbert, and Destani Baker. A special mention of a longtime friend, Linda Davidson (Bill), of High Point that she loved and many more wonderful friends, neighbors and church family. A special thanks to her Care Takers and friends of Westchester Harbour, Providence Place, High Point, NC. A special mention to the Care Takers from Loving Elder Services and her special friend, Merari Chavez.
Beverly was a member of First United Methodist Church of High Point where she was very active until her illness, serving on the Worship and Evangelism Team. She also helped with the Parsons Table during the furniture market and was known for her compassionate, generous, and loving spirit.
Beverly was a 1959 Trinity High graduate and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in education-social studies from High Point College and went on to receive a Master's degree at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She began teaching at Trinity High School in 1963 and taught there 37 years before retiring. During her teaching career at Trinity High School where she served many roles, and the influence she held on the student body throughout her tenure resulted in her being named Teacher of the Year and a recipient of the Trinhian Award. The THS annual was dedicated to her five times during her career. She planned and took seniors on Washington D.C. trips for 25 years; served on the evaluation team for Southern Assoc. for accreditation for high schools; spent a summer working for the STDI School of International Affairs in Vermont; participated in the NC Asian project and was part of a federal grant to study in Japan for six weeks; wrote curriculum for NC schools about Japan; worked three summers with laws relating to education at Guilford College; and wrote several curriculum guides and course of studies for Randolph County.
A final lesson from Beverly before retiring was, "If you want to go into teaching, you should love students and young people. Be prepared and work hard every day. Try to make the students feel good every day. You will gain the students' respect when you do that. Being prepared is the key to teaching."
She was awarded the Alumni Service Award at High Point University in 2015. A member of the Steel Magnolias, she has been a longtime supporter of the university, especially HPU athletics and the School of Education, where a room is named in her honor to continue her legacy, a scholarship is given in her name each year to a student graduating from Trinity High School.
A private service, attended by family only, will be held at 1:00 pm on Sunday, February 21 at First United Methodist Church of High Point, NC with Rev. Debra Swing officiating.
