Roger Alan Abbitt, 69, of East Moline, IL, passed away peacefully Friday morning, April 29, 2022, at his home.

Roger was born October 14, 1952, in Moline, IL., the son of James and Leah (Van De Wostine) Abbitt, Sr. He was a 1970 graduate of United Township High School and attended Black Hawk College in Moline. He married Patricia McCaulley, having two children; Pamela Arroway, Lafayette, CO and Timothy (Jackie) Abbitt, Eugene, OR. He later married Kay Fanning, adopting a daughter, Krista Clark, Moline, IL. Survivors include 3 grandchildren, several cousins, nieces and nephews; his mother, Leah Abbitt, East Moline; a step-sister, Anita (Earl) Johnson, Hawk Point, MO; and his younger brother, James (Sherrie) Abbitt, Jr., East Moline.

Roger succumbed to the effects of a malignant melanoma, only recently diagnosed. His resolve, courage and strength to make the long road-trip home from his temporary residence in New Jersey was extraordinary. Roger was preceded in death by his father, James Abbitt, Sr., and his older brother, Jerry Abbitt.

Roger spent the past couple of decades working as an owner-manager of multiple local and nationwide indoor sport facilities; last completing the supervision of the construction and opening of a multimillion-dollar facility in New Jersey.

Prior to his travels, Roger was instrumental in the East Moline-Silvis soccer leagues and regional tournaments as an organizer and referee. In his earlier career, he was also associated with the Illinois Quad City Realtors Association and taught real estate licensing classes.

A small group of special friends shared breakfast and hearty discussions with Roger whenever he returned to the Quad Cities. Thanks to Eric, Tom, Larry and Tony for those times which Roger would always relate to his brother as special, but too far between. And thanks, also, to Terri, for the many years of friendship and conversations.

Roger was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in East Moline. Please consider a donation to their Food Pantry Program in his memory.

Cremation rights have been observed. There are no formal observances or services. Van Hoe Funeral Home has been instrumental in assisting with all final arrangements. Burial and private, graveside services at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline in the coming weeks. Roger's family will reach out when details are available.
