Alma R. Flisrand, age 97, passed away Sunday, January 13, 2008 at Jenkins Living Center in Watertown, South Dakota.

Alma Regina Flisrand was born on December 3, 1910, to Richard and Hilda (Frost) Aaker on the family farm north of Florence, South Dakota. She was the oldest of eight children. She attended country school and graduated from Waubay High School, where she played basketball and tennis. Alma received her teaching certificate from Aberdeen Normal School and taught rural schools in the Watertown area.

She was united in marriage with Oscar M. Flisrand on May 27, 1934 in Helgen Church, rural Florence. The couple farmed in Kingsbury County near Lake Albert from 1934 to 1968. After retiring, they lived near Lake Poinsett until moving to Watertown in 1993. Oscar passed away on March 29, 1994. The couple had celebrated 59 years and 10 months of marriage.

She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church.

She enjoyed spending time with her family, visiting and entertaining people. She also enjoyed being active in church, genealogy, making greeting cards and crocheting.

Alma was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one great granddaughter, Heather; four brothers, Hammond, Rudolph, Ralph and Sydney; and one sister, Henrietta.

She is survived by her children, Norma (Bernard) Froehner of WI, Grace (Richard) Pickering of Brandon, SD, Milton (Joyce) Flisrand of Arlington, SD and Richard (Ann) Flisrand of Austin, MN; her brother Bill (Marcine) Aaker of Watertown; her sister, Edith Johnson of Watertown; 11 grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Thursday, January 17, 2008 at Grace Lutheran Church in Watertown with Pastor Steve Lauricella officiating.

Interment will be in the Helgen Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Joel Pickering, Chad Pickering, Tom Pickering, Travise Flisrand, John Johnson and Jeff Larson.
