Preceded in death by Mother and Step Father Marie (Pat) & Ed Cox, Father Jimmy Abernathy and Brother Phillip Abernathy. Survived by Children Andie and Chad, Sister Sheila Butler, Half Sisters Constance Reeder, Tammy Meadows, Penny Abernathy and Half Brother Jimmy Wade Abernathy. A Grandson, Ty Gates and 2 Granddaughters Alyssa Gates and Kaymbrey Abernathy. Many beloved Nieces and Nephews and Great Nieces and Nephews.
Tim joined the Army in 1970 at the age of 18. He was medically retired in 1977 at the rank of Specialist 5. He served one tour in Vietnam at the age of 19, as a Forward Observer. He was a life member of VVA Chapter 511. The group worked through fund raising to purchase the Vietnam Veterans Memorial at the Welcome Center located in Ardmore AL. He maintained the lights and kept the flags changed as needed until he moved to Woodbury TN. He was a Multi Craft maintenance worker for several companies in the Tennessee Valley. He loved working on muscle cars and playing pool. He was know as the "One Armed Bandit" and won several tournaments in the area. Nickname came from shooting with one arm behind his back.
