She graduated from DeKalb High School in 1942. She then went on to the University of Wisconsin Madison and earned a bachelor's degree in business. Bonnie married Robert J. Abbott on September 4, 1946, in DeKalb. He preceded her in death on July 27, 2010. Along with her husband they owned and operated Gonterman Jewelers in DeKalb for 36 years. Bonnie and Robert loved playing bridge, playing with their bridge club for 60 plus years. She loved traveling the world especially Europe and the beloved island of St. Barts in the Caribbean. Bonnie was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in DeKalb. She was also a member of P.E.O.
Survivors include three children: Mark (Mary Jo) Abbott of Iowa City, IA, Greg (Gloria) Abbott of Peru, IL, and Debbie (Scott) Chilton of DeKalb. Grandchildren; Jason (Danielle) Abbott, Leslie (Marc) Conte-Russian, Julie (Chris) Kelly, Amy (Jeremy) Lindley, Lindsay (Matt) Schroeder, and Andrew (Karrie) Chilton. Great grandchildren; Gemma, Maeve, Cyrus, Cora, Clare, Braden, Aubree, Rosabelle, Casen, and Easton. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; Robert, grandson; Timothy Abbott, sisters; Phyllis Wickness, Dorace Johnson, and Nancy Ann Gonterman.
Funeral service will be held on Friday, July 29, 2022, at 11:00am at Finch Funeral Home in DeKalb with Pastor Blake Richter officiating. Burial will be immediately following the service at Fairview Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday, July 29, 2022, at 10:00am until the time of service.
