Rev. Eimo Eldon Hinrichs, age 91, of Bartonville, passed away on Monday, October 24, 2022.

He was born on his parent's farm in Pocahontas County Iowa on November 14,1930 to Juliane (Cirks) and Ommo Tjarks Hinrichs. He was the youngest of 5 children, his older siblings all sisters. He graduated from Manson High School ranking first in the County. He attended Wartburg College graduating in 1952. He continued his education with a year at UC Berkley and then earned his MDiv at Wartburg Seminary in 1957. In 1972, he completed a MST at the Lutheran School of Theology in Chicago.

He married Patrica Ann Sim on June 29, 1958. They first made their home in St Donatus, Iowa, the location of his first parish. After accepting a position at Peoria State Hospital as a Psychiatric Chaplin the family moved to Bartonville, Illinois in 1962. They lived in the same house on Burns Ave for 59 years!

Growing up on a farm, he raised pigs for 4H competitions. Gardening became a lifelong hobby. He planted his last garden only three years ago. Eimo loved to follow crop reports and the weather as he continued to own part of the family farm until his great-nephew Kyle Maas purchased it.

Eimo had great fondness for singing. His strong bass voice that was larger than his physical stature was heard in choirs from when he was in Jr. High and continued through most of his life. He loved everything from hymns to sacred and secular choral music but also would sing jingles and old pop songs to entertain his children. He loved hearing his children and grandchildren perform—several of which are now professional musicians.

As an active minister, Eimo performed many wedding ceremonies including many for his nieces and nephews, his children, and grand-children. He was present as a counselor and care giver for so many community members in moments of tragedy and joy. While working as a chaplain, Reverend Eimo also served most ELCA congregations in the Central IL region as either a fill-in or Interim minister including Bethel Lutheran. He retired from Zeller Zone Center as a Chaplain in 1997.

Eimo was an active member of the community serving as Boy Scout Troop Leader, Cursillo Retreats including many in Prisons. He was a frequent newspaper opinion letter writer, especially during the Civil Rights movement of the 1960s and 1970s. He and Pat also created a group for survivors of suicide that continues today.

He is preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Marie (George) Peters, Helen, Grace (Merritt) Porath and Pauline (Harold) Maas, and his daughter Susan.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia (Sim) Hinrichs, Peter (Amy) Hinrichs, Rebecca (John) Glimco, David (Susan Protzner) Hinrichs.

Burial will be in St John Lutheran Church Cemetery in Bartonville.
