• SULPHUR -- Memorial services for Gary Lynn Abbiss, 59, will be 10 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Eddie Malphrus officiating. Interment is at Oaklawn Cemetery.

Born Feb. 12, 1942, at Seminole to Shibley and Fay Murphy Abbiss, he died May 18, 2001, at Ada. He was preceded in death by a sister, Rose Marie Abbiss. (sic., see https://ok2explore.health.ok.gov/App/BirthResults. Date of birth is Jan. 12 vs Feb. 12.)

He married Hope Drury April 12, 1988, at Moore.

Abbiss grew up in the Seminole and Wewoka area. He graduated from Seminole High School. He served 20 years in the United States Air Force, including three tours in Vietnam. He had lived at Moore before moving to Sulphur four years ago. He served on the Buckhorn Rural Water Board. Abbiss was a member of First Baptist Church and Sulphur Elks Lodge.

Survivors include his wife of the home; one daughter, Debra Grey, Apache Junction, Ariz.; sons, Gary Abbiss Jr., Queen Creek, Ariz., Gregory Abbiss, Apache Junction, Matt Wilburn, Stillwater, and Bart Wilburn, Edmond; and three grandchildren.

Honorary bearers are Dave Fernwalt, Steve Grummer, Jerry Martin, Ron Box, Bill Danewood, Tommy St.Cyr, Harvey Hollowell, Kevin Whitman and Richard Whitburn.

Services are under the direction of Clagg Funeral Home.
