She was born on October 29, 1933, in Metamora, IL, to Edmund and Anna (Nauman) Grebner. She married Hugh E. Abel on September 12, 1953 in Metamora, IL. He passed away on January 23, 2008.
Surviving are their two sons, Allen Abel and Stanley Abel both of Metamora; and siblings, James (Karen) Grebner of Romeoville, IL, William (Mary Jo) Grebner of Germantown Hills, IL, Ralph Grebner of East Peoria, IL, and Rosemary (Larry) Christ of Lowpoint, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Helen Best and Lucille Grebner, and brothers Harlan Grebner and Martin "Marty" Grebner.
Barbara graduated from St. Mary's Grade School and Metamora Township High School. She had been a telephone operator for Illinois Bell Telephone. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Metamora where she sang in the St. Mary's Choir from 1947 until 2016. Later in life, Barbara took German at Illinois Central College (ICC). She also enjoyed reading.
Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Metamora.
