ALEXANDRIA — Minnie M. Maynard, 77, Alexandria, died Feb. 26, 2008, at Community Hospital in Anderson after a brief illness.

She was born Jan. 6, 1931, in Alexandria, the daughter of Johnny C. Mullins and Arbutia "Boots" Mullins Thompson, and resided in Alexandria all of her lifetime.

Minnie retired from RCA/Thompson Electronics, formerly of Marion, in 1992. She and her late husband, "Bud" Maynard, owned and operated Maynard's Sewer and Septic Service in Alexandria. They also opened Bud's Barn of Memories, a tribute to Alexandria history and memorabilia.

She was a member of the Alexandria First Baptist Church, Gas City Women of the Moose, and the Alexandria Feed Store Bunch. Minnie quietly devoted her life to serving others through her membership in the Alexandria Eagles Auxiliary, of which she was a 25-year member. She was a Past Madam President and was named Eagles Woman of the Year in 2007. She was a State Mother of Indiana Eagles Auxiliaries and also a Grandmother of the State Aries. For many years, she has served as State Chairman of the Eagles Heart Fund. Countless acts of kindness and gifts were given by Minnie with her gentle and unassuming spirit. Always there to help in any way she could, many had adopted her as Aunt Minnie or Grandma Minnie. Her loving spirit and warm smile will be sadly missed but fondly remembered.

Survivors include a son, Raymond "Buddy" (wife, Susan Howard) Maynard Jr.; granddaughter-in-law, Tracy Maynard of Alexandria; three grandchildren, Levi Maynard, Harley Maynard and Austin Dauenhauer; two sisters, Betty (Charles) Cooper and Florence (Henley) Humphrey, all of Alexandria; three brothers, John "Butch" Thompson (companion, Karen Smith), Tom "Dago" Thompson, and Steve (Pam) Thompson, all of Alexandria; 10 nieces and 15 nephews; a special niece, Connie Johnson; and several in-laws.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 45 years, Raymond "Bud" Maynard Sr., on Aug. 20, 1995; her beloved grandson, Raymond "Ed" Maynard III, on Dec. 19, 2006; and her stepfather, Clarence Thompson.

Services will take place at 10 a.m. Friday at First Christian Church, 215 W. Berry St., Alexandria, with the Rev. Clifton Richardson officiating, pastor Lyn Childers assisting. Burial will be in Park View Cemetery in Alexandria.

Friends may call Thursday at the Noffze Funeral Home, 501 N. Harrison St., Alexandria, from 3 to 8 p.m. The family will also receive friends after 9 a.m. Friday at the church prior to the services. The Alexandria Eagles Auxiliary will conduct a memorial service at 8 p.m. in the funeral home Thursday to close the visitation hours.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Eagles State Heart Fund through the funeral home.

The family would like to extend thanks and appreciation to Dr. Haag, Dr Kabir, Dr. Gelfman, Community Hospital and Hospice and to all of the "special" 3rd floor nursing staff at Community Hospital.

Submitted with honor and respect.
