Floyd Herman "Doodie" Albertson, Jr., 81, of 186 Nosay Road, South Mills, NC, passed away on Friday, September 14, 2018, in his home where he was surrounded by his family.

Mr. Albertson was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on July 8, 1937, and was the only child of Floyd H., Sr. and Bernice Zimmerman Albertson. A retired barber and farmer, he cut hair in the same shop in South Mills for 57 years. A member of Tulls Creek Baptist Church in Moyock, in recent years he had been attending McBride United Methodist Church, the same church in which he was raised as a child. Other memberships enjoyed were the South Mills Ruritan Club, and the New Lebanon Masonic Lodge #314.

Surviving are his wife of 14 years, Ruby Hobbs Sawyer Albertson; two daughters, Clarice Albertson Matthews and husband, Kevin, of Hertford, and Carmen Albertson Walker and husband, Eddie, of South Mills; and a son, Floyd H. Albertson, III of Wilson. Also surviving are Ruby's children, Stephanie C. Riddick and husband, Charles, of Louisburg, and Sherry C. Sloop and husband, Kevin, of Longwood, FL. Other family members include step-children, Cheryl Staples of Elizabeth City and Michael Staples of Alexandria, VA; and aunts and uncles, Dolly and George Huhner, and Grace and Allen Zimmerman, all of New Orleans. Together "Doodie" and Ruby, through their blended families, shared nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his life long best friend and hunting partner E.W. Olds.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. in McBride United Methodist Church, 228 Old Swamp Road, South Mills, and will be conducted by the Rev. Bill Blake, pastor. The family will receive friends in the social hall of the church immediately following the service, or all other times at the residence.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association of Eastern North Carolina, 5171 Glenwood Ave., #101, Raleigh, NC 27612, or online at www.alz.org/nc.

The family wishes to thank all of the caregivers at Sentara Albemarle Medical Center, as well as those with Albemarle Hospice for the comfort and care given to their loved one in his period of declining health.
