Soloman is the son of Nancy Ellen unknown (perhaps Handy) and Allen Absher. He was born in Wilkes county, NC and is a brother to John, William, Louisa, Sarah, Allen and Millie Absher.

His father, Allen, enlisted in Co D, NC 33rd infantry in October 1861 and was executed for desertion on 19 Sep 1863 at the Orange County Courthouse, Orange County, VA. Solomon was just 7 years old then.

In the late 1870s Solomon married Sarah E Unknown. Following her death he married in 1892 Fannie Ellen Bowers Blackman and they have two sons, William Tyris Absher and John Lundy Absher.

Fannie Ellen would remarry following Solomon's death.

Solomon's death was attributed to "exhaustion of dementia" referring to Dementia Praecox (schizophrenia).
