Donald L. Abbott, 78, of Alliance died Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2014, at home, surrounded by his family.

Donald L. Abbott was born April 19, 1936, in Kearney to Robert Earl and Pearl (Abbott) Cox. He was later adopted by his uncle and aunt, Archie (Ted) and Ovillin (Fairchild) Abbott. He grew up in Grand Island and graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1954.

He was united in marriage to Louise Sawicki on Oct. 15, 1955. To this union four children were born. They moved in 1964 to Alliance, where Don was employed by Burlington Northern Railroad. He retired in 1993.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Doug.

ALLIANCE — Donald L. Abbott, 78, of Alliance died Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2014, at home, surrounded by his family.

He was united in marriage to Louise Sawicki on Oct. 15, 1955. To this union four children were born. They moved in 1964 to Alliance, where Don was employed by Burlington Northern Railroad. He retired in 1993.

Survivors include his wife, Louise; his children, Donna (David) Pearse, Dan (Marilyn) Abbott and Kris (Tim) Wallace, all of Alliance; his grandchildren, Christopher Pearse of Alliance, Carly Pearse of Denver, Colo., Reese Wallace and Emily Wallace of Lincoln, Brian Abbott of Vacaville, Calif., and Kindrea Abbott of Alliance.

He is also survived by his brother, Earl Cox of Fresno, Calif.; his niece, Terry Heape of Montgomery, Texas; and his nephew, Kevin Cox of Fresno, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Doug.

A private family service will be held at a later date. Bates-Gould Funeral Home of Alliance is in charge or arrangements.
