Born in Columbus ND, born August 13, 1927 to Alfred and Mina Kelsven,
Mary graduated with a BS in education from the University of MN in 1951. She was married to Jack Hartwig of Milwaukee WI for nearly 60 years.
Mary lived most of her adult life in the Minneapolis area and was active in her community throughout her life. She volunteered for multiple organizations, most notably the Fairview Women's Auxiliary and the League of Women Voters. Mary was an active member of CPC of Edina for more than 65 years. Mary loved many activities and hobbies such as gardening, cooking, entertaining, golf, tennis, and downhill skiing. She and Jack were among the first property owners in Vail CO. She was a regular on the slopes of Vail for nearly 50 years, and after retirement, spent her winters there skiing until the age of 81. Mary was kind, loving, selfless, loyal, hard-working, and dedicated. She was the quintessential friend, always engaged and committed to other people. She showed genuine interest with frequent handwritten notes, thoughtful gifts, phone calls, lunches, dinners, golf outings, ski trips, and happy hours. She counted friendship as one of her greatest blessings.
She was full of grace and will be dearly missed by countless numbers of friends and her cherished family.
She is survived by 5 children: Dave (Becki), Ann Sakellson (Jeff), Paul (Lisa), Martha Ripon (Paul), and Steve (Karen). Seven grandchildren blessed Mary's life: Erin, Guy, Jack (Ava), Mads, Peter, Elise, and Izzy. Two great grandchildren as well: Andre and Violet.
She is preceded in death by her parents, an infant sister, and her brother Wayne.
