Estelle Abernathy Hancock a 75-year-old retired Upson County schoolteacher died Friday in an Upson County hospital after a brief illness. Services will be held at 2 pm Sunday in the chapel of Pasley-Fletcher Funeral Home in Thomaston. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in Americus. The Rev John Jones will officiate. A Monroe County native Mrs. Hancock lived in Thomaston for the past 60 years. She taught school in the Thomaston area for 38 years and was a former member and past worthy matron of Morning Star Lodge No 370 of Order of the Eastern Star. She was a member of Xi Xi Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi sorority and Fellowship Baptist Church in Thomaston. Survivors include a daughter, Joyce Walters of Macon a son, Larry Hancock of Americus; a sister Julia Butts of Thomaston; three brothers, Jim Abernathy of Thomaston, Lee Abernathy of Barnesville, and the Rev. Ted Abernathy of Meansville; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
