. He was preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy M. Carter. He is survived by his wife, Delores Ellis Carter; two sons, Craig Carter and wife, Corrina, of Hillsborough and Wayne Carter and wife, Sharon, of Creedmoor; four daughters, Lovanda C. Sykes and husband, Ken, Tammie C. Frazier, Angela C. Bryant and husband, John, all of Hillsborough and Tonya C. Minor and husband, Keith, of Wilmington; three brothers, Nick Carter of Raleigh, Harry G. Carter, of Staley and Norman W. Carter, of Efland; one sister, Mary Lee Jones of N. Myrtle Beach; twelve grandchildren, Kevin Sykes(Laura), Joshua Sykes (Christie), Brittany Sykes, Lindsay Carter Frazier, Trent Frazier, Adam Carden, Dustin Carden, Aaaron Butner, Bryson Butner, Emily Bryant, Shelbie Carter and Neil Carter and great-grandchildren, Kendall, Jesse and Chloe Sykes.
Mr. Carter was a native of Durham, the son of the late, Wilson Neal Carter and Gertrude Carden Carter. He lived most of his life in Hillsborough. Pastor Carter served in the U. S. Army. He was the founder of Wayside Baptist Church of Hillsborough and served as Pastor from November 1965 until August 1995.
