Paul Douglas Philpott, 96, of Franklinton passed away on August 27, 2023. He was born on October 18, 1926, to the late Clinton Philpott and Esther Preddy Abbott. In addition to his parents, Paul was predeceased by his wife, Marie Dixon Philpott.

Paul is survived by his son: Tony Philpott (Darlene); his daughter Angela Stroud (Vincent Smillie); his 6 grandchildren, Kristen Philpott, Angel Boyd, Andy Philpott (Holly), Gina Ellis, Paige Faison, and Jacob Philpott (Maria); his 9 great-grandchildren; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Paul retired as a Master Sergeant after more than 30 years with the North Carolina National Guard. He was very sociable, never meeting a stranger; he was known for his walks all around Franklinton. He was a member of American Legion Post 52 and Franklinton Baptist Church. Paul was a craftsman with masonry and woodworking, and a jack of all trades. Through the years Paul cared for numerous members of his family, both young and old. When he was younger, he was a member of the Franklinton Volunteer Fire Department.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, September 1, 2023 at Fairview Cemetery in Franklinton with the Reverends Harold Woodlief and David Averette officiating.
