Anchorage resident, Clarence Ayagaq "Sonny" Allen Jr., 43, died Aug. 7 at Alaska Regional Hospital. A service was at Evergreen Memorial Chapel, downtown. The Rev. Dick Miller officiated. Services were also held in Kotzebue with burial in the Kotzebue Village Cemetery.
Mr. Allen was born June 16, 1950, in Sisauliq. He graduated from Mount Edgecombe High School in Sitka, then joined the U.S. Navy and was stationed in Japan and Adak. Mr. Allen had worked as a police officer in Kotzebue and as a security guard for Purcell Security for the NANA Corp., the Anvil Mountain Correctional Center in Nome. He worked for several years for the Maniilaq Corp. in Kotzebue. He was a shareholder in the NANA Regional Corp. and the Kikiktagruk Inupiat Corp.
Mr. Allen is survived by his son, Evans Lee Curtis of Anchorage; his mother and stepfather, Minnie and Dan Savetilik of Selawik; his father, Clarence Sr. of Kotzebue; his sisters, Rhoda Allen and Elsie Willock of Kotzebue; his brothers, Robert Allen, and Roy, Ingram, and Tom Willock of Anchorage, and Jimmy Allen and Bert Willock of Kotzebue, two stepsisters, Priscilla Ballot of Selawik and Grace of Kotzebue; and two stepbrothers, Alfred and Charlie of Kotzebue; his grandmother, Maggie Melton of Kotzebue; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Arrangements by Evergreen Memorial Chapel.
