She met George Abels at a Bledsoe's Beach Lake James dance and later married on October 22, 1950.
Ruth worked in childcare for many years and was a member of St. Joseph UMC and the Southside Optimist Club. She enjoyed working the ham and beans booth at the Johnny Appleseed Festival for over 30 years.
She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Donald Werling and Jean Werling.
Service is 12:00 pm, Monday, October 2, 2023 at Fairhaven Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 6557 N. Clinton St. with calling two hours prior beginning at 10:00 am. Burial at Decatur Cemetery.
