A.W. "Bill" Abel, 88, of La Junta left his home for the final time on December 1, 2023 to join his wife Ruth in heaven, to whom he was married for 65 years. He was born September 19, 1935 to August and Mildred (Thurston) Abel in Kansas City, MO.

In his younger years, he enjoyed bowling and golf, but he was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching a variety of sporting events. He entered retirement, after 40 years of service to the Santa Fe Railroad, to spend more time with Ruth and his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren which were his greatest joys. He was a loving, caring man who always had a hug, handshake, kiss, and a smile for us all.

He is survived by his son, William "Abel", daughters, Sharon Abel (Ron) of Las Vegas, NV and Dawn Harris (Mike) of Pueblo, CO. He was blessed to have 8 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren and was extremely happy when he got to spend time with them and visit with them on the phone. Papa will be greatly missed by us all and forever remembered for all the love and support he provided for his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, August and Mildred; sister, Shelby Halsell; wife, Ruth; daughter, Terri Ann; son, Timothy Dean; and granddaughter, Ashley Rochelle.

A family service is pending at this time.

Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home & Arkansas Valley Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
