James Abel, age 78, of Laurel Bloomery, TN., passed away on Friday, December 22, 2023 in Abingdon, VA.

He was born on January 14, 1945, in Johnson County, TN., to the late Lillard Abel and Lennis Widener Abel. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers, Raymond Abel, Grover Abel, and Roger Abel; sister, Lois Eastridge; nephew, Teddy Eastridge.

James loved to work on his farm. He enjoyed being outside cutting wood, building fences, and working on anything he could. James loved his family very much.

James was a member of Stateline Baptist Church.

Those left to cherish his memories include his sister, Betty Pennington and husband David; niece, April Yarber (Deanie Gentry); nephew, Tommy Eastridge; special great nephew, Tyler Yarber and wife Haley; great great nephew, River Yarber; and many special friends.

The family will receive friends from 10-11:00 am on Tuesday, December 26, 2023 at Mountain City Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 am with Pastor Dave Newbern to officiate. The graveside service and burial will follow from Stateline Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tyler Yarber and Deanie Gentry. Honorary pallbearer is David Pennington.

At other times the family will receive friends at the home of Betty Pennington, 1820 Sugar Creek Road, Laurel Bloomery, TN.
