He was born and raised in Graham County in the Mt. Nebo Church area, and was the son of the late Sam and Clara Smith Adams.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Herman Lee Adams; sisters, Leona Cooper and Gladys Iowa Jenkins; son-in-law, Tommy Hooper; and grandchild, Cynthia Marie Braswell.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, proudly serving from 1953-56 mostly in Alaska, training on 50mm guns.
He loved the Lord and loved teaching others in Sunday School.
He also really loved ice cream.
