Evelyn Aabel died peacefully on Tuesday morning, Oct. 10. She was born Dec. 10, 1935, and was a resident of Alamance County for over 50 years. She received her Master's Degree from UNC at Chapel Hill, and became a pediatric nurse practitioner. Evelyn worked up to the age of 74 as a postpartum visiting baby nurse. She had a passion for life, and for helping children. Evelyn worked for local birth centers, including the Women's Birth and Wellness Center in Chapel Hill. Evelyn taught nursing, and took part in the creation of UNC's first family nurse practitioner program. Evelyn enjoyed traveling, gardening, knitting and spending time with her family and the local Baha'i Faith community. Evelyn truly made the world a better place. She is survived by her son Scott Eric Aabel, his wife Stacy Pam Aabel, 4 grandchildren, and her niece and great-niece . She was laid to rest on Thursday, Oct. 12, at 3 p.m. with a graveside ceremony at Cane Creek Friends Meeting in Snow Camp. She will truly be missed.
