Colleen Marie (Woods) Abernathy was born in Colome, SD to Marie (Kreuger) & Glenn Woods on March 7, 1933.

Colleen grew up in the Colome area. She married Kenneth "Pat" Taggart on July 1, 1950. The family moved to Winner in 1966, then to Yankton in 1976 and in 1978 to Spearfish. Upon Pat's passing she moved to Texas before returning to her beloved Spearfish community. Upon returning to Spearfish, she met and married Bernie Abernathy and made her home on Lester lane. She remained in the Spearfish area until her passing.

Colleen's pride and joy was her family. She was known for making afghans, baby blankets and could sew almost anything. There are many grandkids that received these things for graduations and for the birth of her great-grandkids. She was an avid gardener and her flowers were proof, each year the front of her home was full of color. Her greatest collection was chickens and roosters, you could find them in every corner of her home. The chickens and flowers were always conversation pieces.

Colleen was preceded in death by her husbands; Kenneth "Pat" Taggart and Bernie Abernathy, daughter, Debbie Taggart (Gaikowski), son-in-law Bill Bisgard, her parents Glenn and Marie Woods, baby grandson Kenneth Taggart, and great-grandson Charles Schaweffer.
