Obituary: Edwin Kohler
Edwin L. Kohler, age 85 of Drummond Island passed away early Wednesday morning, May 31, 2001 at his son's home in New Boston, Mich.
Ed was born in Charlevoix, Mich. on Aug. 7, 1915. He started to visit Drummond in 1937 and moved to the island as a permanent resident in 1984 from Gibraltar, Mich.
He retired in 1974 as a master electrician and part-owner of Peck Electrical in Wyandotte, Mich. from 1954 to 1974. He graduated from Wyandotte High School and played football for the first Wyandotte team to go undefeated.
Ed was a life member of the Wyandotte Masonic Lodge No. 170 F & AM, a member of the Wyandotte Alumni Football Association, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers local and the Drummond Island Sportsman Club. He served on the Electrical Examining Board in Wyandotte from 1948 until 1951, served as chairman of the Gibraltar Zoning Board of Appeals and served as City Treasurer of Gibraltar from 1958 to 1971.
He is survived by one son, Edwin J. (Karen) Kohler of New Boston; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and one brother, James J. Kohler of Trenton, Mich.
Memorial services are being planned for a later date on Drummond Island with interment in the Drummond Island Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be left to the Arbor Hospice, 7445 Allen Road., Suite 230 Allen Park Mich 48101.
