Carrie Hadley was born August 1, 1881 to Julia Etta (Julietta) Hadley in Dallas County, Iowa, near Dexter. She and her brother Essa share a birth father, however, his name is unknown. Carrie came to Kansas with her mother, brother and stepfather, Enos C Foulke, after their marriage in 1885. Carrie and Essa had six half siblings.

At age 16, in 1897, Carrie married Jacob Ackley. To this union two daughters were born, Martha and Blanche. Jacob was killed in an accident on April 6, 1901.

On August 11, 1903 Carrie married Henry Stithem (b. 11/20/1874 to Isaac and Rachel Stithem). Carrie and Henry had nine children: Earl, Glen, Bertha, Lester, Ernest, Delores, Eunie, Edna Mae, and Waneta. Henry and Carrie lived and farmed in the Palco area until 1941, retiring in Topeka, KS.

Henry passsed away September 10, 1963 and Carrie on October 22, 1965. Both are buried in the PleasantView Cemetery in Palco, KS.
