Raymond C. Aaron Jr., 64, of Panama City, Fla., passed away Thursday, July 17, 2008, at a Jacksonville hospital.

Ray was a native and lifelong resident of Panama City and a 1962 graduate of Bay High. He served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam conflict, earning the Purple Heart for injuries received. After his military service, he joined the Panama City Fire Department, retiring as captain of fire prevention in 1996. Ray was a member of Northside Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Patricia Smith Aaron of Panama City; his son, Alan Aaron and wife, Deanna; daughter, Deborah Goodwin and husband, Jimmy; grandsons, Brandon Aaron and David Carden; granddaughters, Maranda Turano and husband, Brett, Mary Carden and Amanda Carden; great-grandson, Treysen Aaron; sister, Beth Reitz; mother-in-law, Hester Smith; and many loving cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, June Aaron; father, Raymond Aaron; daughter, Stephanie Aaron; and father-in-law, Frank Smith.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 23, 2008, at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Jerry Moore officiating. Interment with military honors by the U.S. Marine Corps will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 22, 2008, at the funeral home.

All present and retired members of the Panama City Fire Department are invited to serve as honorary pallbearers.
