Ingvald Aas, 89, a longtime Clarkston resident and former state policeman and deputy sheriff, died of infirmities of age Thursday at Tri-State Convalescent Center.
Until several years ago his name was the first in each telephone directory issued for Lewiston and Clarkston.
He was born Jan. 17, 1888, at Cannon Falls, Minn., to Mr. and Mrs. A.J. Aas. The family moved to Silverton,Oregon when he was 5. Then years later they moved to the Big Bear Ridge area near Kendrick.
He homesteaded in Montana in 1909.
Aas joined the U.S. Navy and served two years during World War I. He returned to Idaho following his stint in the Navy and in 1929 started work as a Latah County sheriff's deputy. He worked there until 1948 when he started work for the Idaho State Police. Two years later he entered the Asotion county sheriff's office as a deputy. He retired from that job in 1959.
He married Agnes Rognstad Oct. 12, 1948, at Clarkston. She is the only survivor. Eight brothers and sisters preceded him in death.
He was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church. Veterans of World War I. Lewiston Masonic Lodge and knights Templar Lodge.
Funeral services will be monday at 2p.m. at Merchant Funeral Homes with the Rev. Edwin O. Silrum of Our Savior Lutheran Church officiating. burial will follow at Vineland Cemetery.
