IUKA - Alphus V. Ables, 92, died Wednesday, July 9, 2003, at the Tishomingo Manor Nursing Home. He was born Dec. 17, 1910, at New Site to the late David Joshua and Roxie Alma Hicks Ables. After graduating from Tishomingo Agricultural High School, he served in the Civilian Conservation Corps. He was a retired chemical research specialist for the Tennessee Valley Authority, where he worked for 35 years. His hobbies were history, genealogy and science, and he enjoyed his family, friends, farm and animals.

Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Cutshall Funeral Home Chapel in Iuka with the Rev. Jim Holcomb officiating. Burial will be in Joel Cemetery in Dennis.

LIVING FAMILY OMITTED.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lera Mae Bethune Ables, his parents, three children, four brothers and two sisters.

Pallbearers will be Harlan Bryson, John Kent, Roger Byrd, Jerry Linton, Charles Sweeney and Ronnie Scott.
