James Monroe Abernathy, 68 years old, died Friday at his home in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., of a heart attack. Born July 1, 1885 in Bollinger County, he was a son of Matthew Abernathy.
He was educated in the schools here and attended Will Mayfied College and Cape Normal.
He had been employed 35 years with Frisco Railroad as an auditor, in St. Louis.
He had resided in Florida the past year, moving there from St. Louis.
He was married 40 years ago to Miss Lottie Newlin of Mill Springs.
He is survived by his wife; one son N.F. Abernathy of New Orleans; three granddaughters; one sister, Mrs. Grover Allgood of Lutesville, Mo.; and four brothers, William Abernathy of Lutesville, Mo.; Joe R. of Long Beach, Calif.; David of Cape Girardeau, Mo.; and Ben F. of St. Louis, Mo.
Funeral services were held Monday at Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
