Funeral services for J. J. Abernathy, 57, were conducted Sunday at Spry Chapel. The Rev. Jerry McGivney officiated and was assisted by the Rev. Elgie Jones. Burial was in the Athens City Cemetery.
Mr. Abernathy, a resident of Elkmont Rt. 2, died Saturday at Jackson's Clinic following a month's illness.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Olivia Johnson Abernathy; two sons, Hobson Abernathy, Elkmont Rt. 2, and Eugene Abernathy, Denver, Colo.; two daughters, Miss Mary Sue Abernathy, Elkmont Rt. 2 and Mrs. Ruby Browning, Toney Rt. 2; a brother Willie Abernathy, Capshaw; two sisters, Mrs. Inez Graham, Dallas, Texas and Mrs. Nina Hall, Birmingham; 10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
